I wanted more. I look forward to the follow-up book…,
Enrico Antiporda can write and kept the pace and plot of Band of Gypsies moving along. I felt that this was partially autobiographical. It was a book that I am sure the author felt he must write. Some of the episodes may have been experienced first-hand. This had the feeling of a story that had to be told.
My only complaints would be that it perhaps moved along too quickly. I wanted to know more details about the characters. I also felt that some of the violence was for shock value and Hollywood like.
Though Jaime and Allison’s developing relationship was the back-bone for the story, I also wanted more of Elena and Bjorn’s relationship revealed as well. I felt that I was just starting to identify with some of the characters when it ended.
To sum it up, I wanted more. I look forward to the follow-up book, but ask Enrico to go back and revisit this period again. The great moments of friendship between people of varying cultures thrown together were too short.
The writing style was enjoyable and I like the use of foreign phrases and imagery.

|A Sensory Experience,
I was interested right away in The Band of Gypsies. Mr. Antiporda starts the action in Chapter One (“Death Squad”) and never takes his foot off the gas. The main character, Jaime, is going to Spain on an internship, leaving a cloud of violence behind in his country.
The violence continues in Spain, where Basque rebels fight La Guardia. In most books with this much action, the writer does not pay attention to detail and local color. While reading Gypsies, however, I could smell the callos (tripe in garlic gelatin) and the warm, dusty Spanish streets.
The main character is very well drawn. He is real to me – a little flawed, which makes him extremely likable. The love interest, Allison, is well done as well, as are the minor characters.
This is a great read for a plane ride or the beach – I heartily recommend this novel. I anxiously await any new offerings from Enrico Antiporda.

|Brilliant Color and Characters,
Jaime Aragon’s planned summer internship in Spain quickly turns into a flight to safety and permanent emigration when he saves his sister from an assault. Chaos and a terrorism act also mark his arrival in Bilbao where he finds refuge in an assigned apartment shared by a diverse group of individuals whose high spirits and adventurous passions often hide surprising histories of survival and violence. As his life melds into days of work and learning the language, Jaime develops a strong attraction to troubled Allison, but her relationship with enigmatic Francisco and her confusing attitude toward Jaime stops him from making his feelings known. As young lives intertwine, serendipitous encounters with bands of roving gypsies, violent civil disruptions, beautiful women, and the stunning countryside of northern Spain add fantastic background color. While Jaime’s love for Allison grows, he begins to form a clearer picture of his own future.
At last, a novel filled with romance and passion from the male perspective. I look forward to the next work by this author.
